Outdoor Pursuits

Tailored adventures for every age

We understand that meaningful outdoor education looks different at different stages of development. That’s why our programme is carefully structured into two age groups, ensuring every student experiences challenges that are both exciting and appropriate:

Ages 9-12: Building Foundations
Designed to introduce younger students to outdoor skills in a supportive, confidence-building environment where exploration and fun go hand in hand.

Ages 13-16: Advancing Skills
Offering older students more demanding challenges that develop independence, leadership, and technical proficiency.

What your child could do in the Outdoor Pursuits module…

Mountain Biking

Ages 13-16: Trail Riding on the Malvern Hills

Navigate scenic trails across the Malvern Hills and green spaces surrounding Malvern College. Students develop bike handling skills and experience the thrill of off-road cycling on more challenging terrain, from woodland paths to rolling hillsides.

Ages 9-12: Exploring the College Grounds

Build cycling confidence in the beautiful, extensive grounds of Malvern College. On gentler terrain perfect for developing skills, younger students learn bike control, trail etiquette, and experience the joy of off-road riding in a safe, supportive environment.

Hiking the Malvern Hills

Trek across one of England’s most breath-taking landscapes, building stamina and resilience with every step. Students follow ancient ridgelines with panoramic views, learn basic navigation, and discover they’re capable of more than they imagined. It’s also the very best way to see what makes the Malvern Hills so very special.

Water-Based Adventures

Ages 13-16: Paddleboarding & Kayaking on Open Water

Master paddling techniques on local rivers and lakes. Students develop balance, coordination, and confidence navigating open water -whether gliding across a calm lake on a paddleboard or manoeuvring a kayak through gentle currents.

Ages 9-12: Kayaking in the Pool

Build foundational skills in the safe environment of Malvern College’s swimming pool. Students learn proper paddling technique, develop water confidence, and master the essentials before progressing to outdoor adventures.

Climbing

Scale new heights while developing problem-solving skills and determination. Under expert guidance, students learn proper technique and safety protocols, progressing at their own pace. Each ascent builds not just strength, but self-belief.

High Ropes

Test courage and balance on a challenging aerial obstacle course. Navigating swinging ropes, tires and balance beams demands concentration and bravery. The sense of accomplishment helps teenagers realise they’re far more capable than they imagined.

Camp Craft

Ages 9-12:

Learn timeless outdoor skills through hands-on activities. Students master fire lighting, construct shelters from natural materials, and toast marshmallows over flames they helped create. These activities teach self-reliance, creativity, and foster a deeper connection to nature.

Outdoor Pursuits was the most exciting module! I absolutely loved the mountain biking and paddleboarding - it was fantastic! The hiking was challenging but so much fun!
